Spencer Ogden is currently supporting one of our clients in their search for a Solar Construction Manager in Williamsburg, VA.
Job Summary:
The Solar Construction Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the execution of assigned projects in the field. The role requires experience with large-scale power plants and equipment, including but not limited to solar panels, inverters, turbines, generators, pumps, motors, control systems, electrical/instrumentation, operations, and other balance-of-plant systems.
Candidates should be highly motivated, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and possess strong communication skills. The role requires the ability to meet physical requirements for fieldwork, including working in confined spaces, climbing stairs and ladders, and wearing respiratory protection.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all projects are executed with a primary focus on Safety and Environmental Compliance for all personnel involved.
- Maintain awareness of project status within scheduled work timelines and resolve conflicts as they arise. This includes maintaining a physical presence on-site for at least 80% of the project duration.
- Perform site construction oversight inspections to monitor the quality of work and materials provided by vendors and subcontractors.
- Inspect work for quality and adherence to contract specifications, regulatory requirements, codes, and company standards using visual observations, construction knowledge, and applicable skills.
- Ensure that the client receives the specified products and services according to the PO/EPC contract, ensuring performance meets the required standards.
- Understand the Scope of Work (SOW) and ensure that the Supplier executes work in line with the SOW and Standards. Report any deviations from contract specifications or materials to the Project Manager.
- Provide quality inspection reports and status updates to management upon request or as needed.
- Offer feedback to contractors, engineers, safety personnel, and management regarding issues or concerns encountered.
- Understand Supplemental Terms & Conditions, with particular attention to Safety and Environmental Compliance standards, which must be executed by the Supplier.
- Complete Daily Field Reports.
Qualifications:
- Solid knowledge of power generation and pollution control equipment.
- General understanding of construction and operational field practices, equipment use, and work component scheduling.
- Strong ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and schedule work to meet construction deadlines.
- Proven ability to handle multiple distinct projects simultaneously.
- Effective interpersonal skills to collaborate with management and co-workers and make sound decisions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to compare construction specifications and material requirements with physical and material work products.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting manuals, technical instructions, and drawings, with the ability to prepare clear written reports.
- Proficient in using personal computers and Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Familiarity with OSHA scaffolding requirements and industry safety practices.
- A minimum of 7 years of industry experience in construction, engineering, and/or management, with at least 3 years of demonstrated experience in construction management.
- OSHA 30 certification.
