About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to join its executive leadership team. The successful candidate will be the primary legal advisor, providing guidance on a wide range of legal, policy, governance, and regulatory matters related to non-profit management, charter schools, and public education. This pivotal role involves advising the CEO and senior leaders on strategic priorities, managing the legal and compliance team, and ensuring the organization's operations are in full compliance with all legal requirements. The General Counsel will also be responsible for developing and implementing legal systems and practices, as well as monitoring and advising on education-related policy and legislative developments.Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a Juris Doctorate or equivalent, with a license to practice law in New York, and at least 15 years' of relevant legal experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in education law, charter law, contract law, employment law, and public records law, and a proven track record of serving as a trusted senior advisor. A deep belief in the mission of the organization and a commitment to racial equity are essential. The role requires excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to anticipate legal issues and maintain a high level of professional ethics and integrity.
