About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to join their team. The successful candidate will hold a critical senior leadership position, working closely to set the vision and strategy for the organization. Major responsibilities include providing legal guidance on new initiatives, revising existing policies, and ensuring that the organization's strategy aligns with state, district, and local laws and policies. The General Counsel will also be involved in drafting and overseeing the implementation of new legal policies, supporting performance management and evaluation strategies, and representing the organization in legal and administrative proceedings. Additionally, the role involves advising on labor and employment-related legal issues, assisting in the development of union contract proposals, and participating in all labor negotiations.Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company must have a Juris Doctor degree and be licensed to practice law in the state and federal courts in New Jersey. A minimum of 6 years' relevant legal experience in New Jersey education and school law, with at least 3 years specifically in representing and advising New Jersey school districts, is required. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of public sector labor and employment law, as well as experience in project management, board governance, and the ability to explain complex legal concepts in an accessible manner. The role demands exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to build and cultivate relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
