Position Overview:
The Engineering Manager will oversee the Design Engineering, Estimating, and Prototyping departments at a contract manufacturer specializing in metal fabrication. This role demands a strategic thinker with exceptional leadership skills and meticulous attention to detail. The manager will play a pivotal role in driving business development initiatives, fostering continuous improvement across all engineering functions, and supporting efforts to achieve sales growth.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate estimating and design activity in support of new business development
- Schedule and coordinate sample/prototype activity and personnel
- Provide technical assistance to the Sales and Purchasing departments as required
- Conduct and/or manage engineering-related activities in support of business operations, including, but not limited to determining specifications for raw materials, component materials, finished products, and manufacturing processes/equipment.
- Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
- Direct, review, and approve product design and changes.
- Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering & estimating work performed in the department.
- Serves on continuous improvement project teams.
- Works with cross-functional teams to effectively drive the delivery of high-quality products from design concept to customer delivery and in-service operation.
- Design strategies for future development projects based on the company’s overall objectives and resources.
- Review and update policies relevant to internal systems.
- Coach, resolve conflict and correct action as necessary to solve performance related issues.
- Collaborate with the Business Development team to support sales initiatives and provide technical expertise during client and vendor meetings.
Job Qualifications
- 3+ years successful experience leading engineering teams
- 3+ year of metal fabrication experience
- Positive “Customer First” attitude with a high level of accountability, personal drive, ambition, and integrity
- Problem solver and strategic thinker with a high attention to detail
- Strong relationship skills with the ability to foster a sense of community with cross-functional teams.
- Limited travel required
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Design Engineering is highly preferred.
- Contract manufacturing experience preferred
- SolidWorks experience is preferred
- Project Management experience preferred
