Job Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a critical role in supporting patient care, assisting with clinical and administrative tasks to ensure an efficient and high-quality healthcare experience. Working under the supervision of a licensed physician, the MA is responsible for patient intake, clinical procedures, and care coordination. This position requires hands-on interaction with patients, maintaining accurate records, and fostering a patient-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Support & Patient Care
Assist with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments as directed by a licensed physician.
Perform diagnostic tests (X-rays, EKGs, etc.) and ensure quality control checks on all medical equipment.
Administer non-intravenous medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a physician.
Conduct wound care, including the removal of staples, changing dressings, and obtaining cultures.
Collect vital signs, patient medical histories, and specimens via venipuncture, capillary collection, and other noninvasive techniques.
Care Coordination & Patient Support
Coordinate patient care as directed by the provider, ensuring proper follow-ups and timely service.
Create a clean, organized, and fully stocked environment for exam and treatment rooms.
Respect and maintain patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.
Support the case management team during patient procedures.
Operational Support & Compliance
Assist with daily clinic operations, including supply inventory, equipment sterilization (autoclave), and stocking of medical rooms.
Ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols and standard delegation of orders.
Accurately record patient care information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and identify discrepancies for correction.
Participate in emergency management protocols and maintain a safe work environment.
Communication & Team Collaboration
Coordinate clinic activities and schedules, supporting multiple locations as needed.
Act as a scribe, assisting providers in documenting medical information during patient visits.
Answer phone calls and assist with in-person patient inquiries, focusing on intake and information gathering.
Required Skills & Competencies
Patient Care Expertise: Knowledge of medical terminology, strong venipuncture skills, and experience with clinical procedures.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in data entry and use of EHR systems.
Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately document and review patient information.
Customer Service Orientation: Patient-focused approach with strong interpersonal skills.
Teamwork & Communication: Ability to collaborate effectively with providers, case managers, and administrative staff.
Organizational Skills: Capacity to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced clinic environment.
Required Education, Licenses & Certifications
Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited program or 1 year of healthcare experience with direct patient contact.
Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to operate diagnostic equipment.
Venipuncture certification and strong experience in blood specimen collection.
Computer literacy with proficiency in EHR systems.
High School Diploma or GED.
CPR/AED Certification (required or must be obtained upon hire).
Preferred Education, Experience & Skills
At least 5 years of experience as a certified Medical Assistant.
Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish (preferred but not required).
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push or pull heavy objects up to 100 pounds.
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
Use of fine motor skills to operate medical equipment and instruments.
Occasional exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
Ability to discriminate shades of color when reading test results (e.g., dipstick tests).
Work Environment:
The position may require travel to multiple locations in the Orlando, FL area.
The work is performed in a clinical setting where safety protocols, including the use of PPE, are strictly followed.
