Role : Data Center Project Manager

Location : Fully onsite in Douglasville, AL

Duration : 12mo+ contract

Client : Large IT client


Top 3 Hard Skills Required + Years of Experience

  1. Minimum 4 years’ experience with Project management experience in large-scale data center environments
  2. Minimum 4 years’ experience with data center operations, including installation and maintenance of hardware and infrastructure
  3. Minimum 4 years’ experience with coordinating and managing multiple teams and projects simultaneously


Responsibilities:

This role provides the opportunity to oversee critical data center projects, including new construction and site spin-ups, in a dynamic and fluid work environment. They will gain hands-on experience with server rack installations, network re-cabling, and managing break-fix queues. Additionally, the role provides the chance to work in a large-scale data center environment similar to those of major tech companies, while maintaining a positive and collaborative work culture.


Typical Day in the Role

  • The purpose of this team is running operations at the data center, including overseeing site operations, DC tech managers, IT support, and logistics.
  • They focus on ensuring smooth data center operations, managing new construction and site spin-ups, and handling various data center projects and tasks.
  • This role will contribute towards overseeing new data center construction and site spin-ups, managing server rack installations, handling retrofit projects like re-cabling the wireless network, managing break-fix queues for live production traffic, and coordinating with early install teams to establish basic connectivity and infrastructure at new sites.
  • These tasks emphasize the need for data center experience and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Typical task breakdown:
  • 40% Meetings
  • 50% Live Coordinating and Problem Solving: will involve ad hoc coordination with on-site work teams and partner teams, addressing any issues that arise.
  • 10% Floor Time: walking the floor, observing, and coordinating tasks.


Candidate Requirements

• Candidates must have at least a couple of years of experience in a large-scale data center setting.

• The ideal resume would contain experience working in data centers for one of the Big 5 tech companies. This experience indicates familiarity with the scale and complexity of owned and operated data centers, which is highly valuable for this role.

• Performance will be assessed based on the ability to maintaining a positive working environment and ensuring smooth collaboration between teams and avoiding frustration among team members regarding work assignments and inter-team cooperation.


Role Responsibilities

• Manage programs associated within area of responsibility.

• Create and manage end-to-end project plans and ensure on time delivery.

• Engage with appropriate teams and resources to execute tasks or projects.

• Plan, manage, and communicate end-to-end project plans with stakeholders and teams.

• Perform day-to-day project check-in and update to manage project delivery and quality.

• Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities and communicate to stakeholders and other teams to drive resolution.

• Recognize potential customer impact of other events and issues (e.g., customer lockdown), communicate potential impact, and plan for impact accordingly.

• Proactively review schedules and avoid conflicts when possible.

• Identify, coordinate, manage expectations, and offer alternatives when defining customer solutions.

• Suggest ways for reducing risk of performing maintenance; work with others to accommodate scheduling needs.

• Suggest improvements in implementation based on depth of understanding.

• Contribute to a positive team environment by learning and adopting best practices.

• Follow and adhere to safety and security policies and procedures.

• Report immediately any safety or security issues or concerns.
