Job Title: Mainframe z/OS platform Administrator
Location: Owing Mills, MD (Hybrid: 2 days/week on-site preferred)
Duration: February 12, 2025 – August 11, 2025
Summary
The Mainframe z/OS platform Administrator will focus primarily on the Mainframe z/OS platform , providing expertise in DB2 on z/OS 2.4 or higher and DB2 z/OS V12 . This role involves database support, system performance optimization, and participation in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation. The ideal candidate will have strong technical acumen, excellent problem-solving skills, and proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site support for IBM DB2 mainframe z/OS environments.
- Support IBM application environments and teams leveraging DB2 z/OS databases.
- Monitor and collect system performance statistics, providing recommendations for optimization.
- Respond to automated system and application alerts, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues.
- Plan and execute software and database installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and maintenance.
- Manage system and database backups and execute manual redundancy switches during failures.
- Utilize Broadcom/CA database administration tools (e.g., RC/Merger, RC/Query, RC/Migrator) and Rocket Software tools (e.g., ASG-TMON/MVS, TMON/DB2).
- Participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation for production support.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 6+ years of experience in IBM DB2 mainframe administration, including expertise in IBM utilities and commands.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and performance tuning.
- Experience with Broadcom/CA tools such as RC/Merger, RC/Query, RC/Migrator, Detector, and Subsystem Analyzer.
- Knowledge of IBM Data Studio, monitoring tools, and ticketing/tracking systems.
- Proven ability to write technical documentation and effectively communicate complex concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills and results-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and mentor junior team members.
Preferred:
- Certification as a DB2 z/OS Database Administrator (V11 or later).
- Experience with Rocket Software tools (e.g., ASG-TMON/MVS, TMON/DB2).
- Familiarity with support agreements and service level management.
Work Environment
- Hybrid work arrangement: 2 days per week on-site in Owing Mills, MD preferred.
- Candidates working remotely must use their own device to connect via Citrix when working from home.
