Job Title: Sr Manufacturing Manager / Senior Packaging Engineering Manager
Location: Hoffman Estates, IL 60169 - hybrid - 3 days onsite / 2 remote
I am looking for a dynamic Sr Manufacturing Manager or Senior Packaging Engineering Manager to lead manufacturing and packaging engineering teams in a highly regulated environment, such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, or aerospace. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on engineering expertise, focusing on cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and the introduction of innovative manufacturing technologies.
Overview of Responsibilities
- Leadership and Strategy: Provide operational leadership in developing and executing manufacturing strategies at the operational level. Direct the manufacturing and packaging engineering group's priorities for all engineering projects supporting operations.
- Project Oversight: Oversee planning and execution of all manufacturing and packaging engineering projects, including the installation and validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) of new equipment. Ensure systems are designed for high reliability, efficiency, and flexibility.
- Cost Reduction and Efficiency: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to identify and implement cost reduction activities, including cycle time reductions and scrap minimization, packaging equipment automation. Evaluate cost reduction opportunities and drive efficiency improvements.
- Innovation Collaboration: Work closely with Product Engineering and Innovation teams on the development of new products for manufacturing. Lead the introduction of new manufacturing and packaging technologies to enhance production capabilities.
- Maintenance Collaboration: Partner with Maintenance Management to establish maintenance plans for manufacturing and packaging equipment, ensuring operational efficiency and reliability. Investigate and eliminate repetitive equipment failures and sources of contamination.
- Team Development: Lead and mentor the manufacturing and packaging engineering team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and quality. Provide engineering support to manufacturing and facility maintenance activities.
- Capital and Expense Management: Develop and manage the capital plan and expense requirements for manufacturing and packaging engineering, ensuring resource allocation aligns with strategic initiatives.
- Communication and Coordination: Communicate effectively with all operations departments, Project Engineering, Innovation, and Quality to ensure alignment and collaboration across the organization.
- Continuous Improvement: Actively contribute to improving trends in labor efficiency, equipment utilization, and product quality. Routinely verify adherence to quality management system procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing and automation environment, with a strong background managing resources in continuous manufacturing settings involving high-speed equipment.
- Expertise in high reliability system design, injection molding, robotics, and packaging equipment. Familiarity with basic PLC logic, controls, and hardware. Experience with inspection procedures and Statistical Process Control (SPC) analysis.
- Some proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office Suite, and project management software.
- Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple projects effectively.
