About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to lead its legal team and provide strategic legal guidance to the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to, grantmaking, contracts, risk management, and compliance, with a particular focus on c3/c4 compliance. This role requires a Juris Doctor degree, a minimum of 5-10 years of relevant legal practice, and a strong background in the legal requirements governing private foundations and 501(c)(4) entities. The General Counsel will also serve as the organization's point person on nonprofit governance, advise the Board of Directors, and oversee the legal and governance staff.Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a proven track record of providing legal advice to affiliated 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations, and experience in areas such as intellectual property, tax, investments, data privacy, employment, and employee benefits is highly desirable. The role demands excellent judgment, the ability to work across all levels of the organization, and experience in managing outside counsel. The ideal candidate will be a nimble learner, action-oriented, and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
