As a member of the Construction Department reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Civil Engineer will work on Capital Projects, including new installations and modifications to existing facilities. The role will be responsible for civil, structural, and architectural systems and should be capable of independently managing small projects, with the potential to handle medium to large projects in the future. This position may be based at any of our plant sites in the US, with up to 50% travel or relocation required (project-dependent). The first 2-3 years will be project-based in Cleburne, Texas.
Duties:
- Supervise civil design for capital projects, including plant layout, building design, underground utilities, grading, drainage, paving, and structural designs such as platforms, foundations, and slabs.
- Coordinate civil and structural design efforts with mechanical and electrical teams.
- Prepare RFQs and purchase Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings (PEMB) and other structures, including MEP systems.
- Work with the Corporate EH&S group to prepare necessary operating permits, such as wetland and grading permits.
- Collaborate with Corporate Supply Chain and Logistics teams on site logistics plans, including employee parking, truck routing, and rail designs.
- Ensure compliance with local building codes, insurance requirements (FM Global), and other permit requirements.
- Participate in project design review meetings and coordinate with vendors.
- Prepare installation scope of work, solicit bids, and award contracts.
- Supervise the installation of buildings, structures, utilities, foundations, and slabs.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
- Enforce corporate and construction safety rules and regulations.
- Sign off on acceptance of Civil Design and oversee the startup of utility systems such as water, gas, sewer, and stormwater.
Capital Project Development:
- Design storage requirements for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods, influencing building and site layout.
- Develop site layout plans considering logistics and shipping space requirements.
- Evaluate utility requirements and assess availability.
- Supervise the preparation of P&ID drawings for utilities in collaboration with the process team.
- Solicit and estimate budgetary proposals using recent purchasing data.
- Develop installation scope of work for civil systems, buildings, foundations, and structures.
- Review proposed designs with plant operations, maintenance, and safety teams.
- Prepare project estimates, implementation schedules, and Capital Expenditure Requests for management approval.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a related field is strongly preferred; equivalent education or experience is also acceptable.
- 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing, processing, or industrial environments, with field experience in civil and structural design and construction.
- Experience with underground utility systems, site drainage, building design, and field construction.
- Project management experience, including successful execution of design, specification, contracts, and installation.
- Experience with utility and process piping systems (e.g., pumps, valves, fittings, and pipe supports).
- Experience with mechanical systems such as hydraulics, pneumatics, high-pressure water, compressed air, and natural gas.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, and a strong desire to learn.
- Ability to lead and collaborate within cross-functional teams.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and achieve high performance with minimal supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with a focus on effective coordination and goal achievement.
- Attention to detail and thorough follow-up skills.
- Knowledge of building codes and OSHA standards (preferred).
- Familiarity with equipment and machine design standards (AWS, ANSI, ASTM) is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook) and general computer skills.
- Experience with AutoCAD, including the ability to view, print, and make basic modifications to drawings (advanced drawing skills preferred).
