Job Description: Network Engineer

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Network Engineer to oversee the delivery of both project-based and managed IT networking services to clients. The Network Engineer will be responsible for upgrading, repairing, and troubleshooting managed service client networks, building project plans for network switch/firewall implementation, and managing internal network switches and firewalls. The role requires ensuring services are delivered in accordance with established descriptions within service level agreements (SLAs). The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, excellent communication and leadership abilities, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Project-Based Services:

• Support project and solutions integration by owning solution design and delivery.
• Demonstrate expertise in firewalls, network connectivity, routing, and switching protocols and configurations.
• Contribute to pre-sales scoping by assessing customer network environments and designing bills of materials.
• Develop and present solution documentation, including project plans and design diagrams (e.g., Visio).
• Implement, cable, initialize, and configure switches, routers, and firewalls.
• Record project time in project management portals such as Autotask.

Managed IT Services:

• Proactively maintain and service accounts to ensure customer satisfaction and drive annual business.
• Act as an escalation point for customer tickets and network troubleshooting.
• Plan, communicate, and execute network device updates for clients.
• Track managed service time on customer projects or tickets.
• Apply support and design expertise to internal network infrastructure, including:
• Network logging, monitoring, and alerting tools.
• Installation and configuration of new network hardware.
• Become a certified product expert in at least three relevant technologies, such as Dell Networking, SonicOS, CCNA/CCNP, or Fortinet.
• Build relationships with cross-functional teams, including sales, finance, and operations, to align engineering projects with overall strategy.
• Conduct on-site visits to customer locations as needed.
• Collaborate with management and sales teams to enhance customer-facing lab environments and product demos.
• Drive client satisfaction through surveys and proactive engagement.

Skill Set and Qualifications:

• Expertise in LAN/WAN routing and switching.
• Proficiency with firewalls (e.g., Dell, Fortinet, SonicWALL, Cisco, Palo Alto).
• Strong understanding of Layer 2/3 networking, VLANs, trunking, port aggregation, static routing, OSPF/BGP routing, DNS, DHCP, Radius, SNMP, ARP, MAC address tables, and VPNs.
• Working knowledge of cloud solutions and network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG).
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent is strongly preferred.
• 3+ years of production networking experience in environments with stacked, clustered, or highly available systems.
• 3+ years of experience with virtualization technologies and Windows server administration.
• Professional demeanor and strong team collaboration skills.
• Exceptional presentation, communication, and customer management skills.
• Proven problem-solving abilities and a commitment to continuous learning.
• Relevant certifications are a plus (e.g., CCNA/CCNP, Dell storage and networking, Azure/AWS, Fortinet NSE).
