Job Summary
The Solar Journeyman Electrician is a vital contributor to the installation, maintenance, and repair of solar energy systems. This role requires working independently or as a team leader to ensure projects are completed with excellence in safety, quality, and efficiency. Leveraging advanced electrical skills, this position involves troubleshooting, problem-solving, and supervising apprentices or other electricians as needed.
Key ResponsibilitiesSolar Panel Installation and Supervision
- Install solar panels on rooftops or other structures in line with engineering specifications and safety protocols.
- Supervise and guide apprentices or junior electricians, ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards.
Advanced Electrical Wiring and Connections
- Wire solar panels, inverters, transformers, and battery systems, including proper grounding and insulation.
- Ensure all electrical connections comply with regulatory codes and industry standards.
System Testing and Troubleshooting
- Perform detailed performance tests and inspections to verify system efficiency and reliability.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues, conducting advanced repairs and adjustments as necessary.
Maintenance and Repairs
- Conduct routine maintenance, including cleaning, inspections, and component replacements.
- Oversee or perform complex repairs and upgrades to improve system performance and lifespan.
Safety and Compliance Leadership
- Adhere to and enforce safety protocols and regulatory requirements to maintain a secure work environment.
- Lead or assist with safety training sessions for team members.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain detailed records of installations, inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Provide updates on project progress, issues, and resolutions to supervisors and project managers.
Customer Service and Support
- Interact professionally with clients, explaining system operations and addressing inquiries.
- Offer guidance on energy-saving practices and optimal solar system usage.
Professional Development
- Stay updated on advancements in solar energy technology and electrical systems.
- Participate in training and certifications to enhance technical expertise.
Qualifications and Skills
- Advanced Electrical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of electrical systems, wiring, and circuit principles, with expertise in solar energy systems.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with photovoltaic technology, solar inverters, and battery systems.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex solar system issues independently.
- Physical Stamina: Capability to work outdoors in various conditions, including heights and physically demanding tasks.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience supervising or training apprentices or junior electricians.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program.
- Journeyman Electrician certification is mandatory.
- Minimum of 3 years of electrical experience, with a preference for solar installation expertise.
- Certifications such as NABCEP are advantageous.
Working Conditions
- Primarily outdoor work on rooftops and construction sites, often in challenging environments.
- May require irregular hours to meet deadlines or client needs.
