Job Title: Compensation Specialist

Location: San Rafael

Reports To: VP of Total Rewards

Job Summary:

The Senior Compensation Specialist will play a key role in designing, implementing, and managing compensation programs that attract, retain, and motivate employees. This role is responsible for conducting market analyses, developing salary structures, and providing strategic recommendations to ensure competitive and equitable compensation practices. The Senior Compensation Specialist will collaborate with HR, leadership, and external partners to align compensation strategies with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Compensation Program Design and Management:
  • Design and maintain competitive salary structures and incentive programs.
  • Develop and refine compensation policies and procedures to ensure internal equity and compliance with applicable laws.
  • Conduct periodic audits of compensation practices to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  1. Market Analysis and Benchmarking:
  • Conduct market research and benchmark positions against external data to ensure competitiveness.
  • Analyze compensation survey results and recommend adjustments to maintain market alignment.
  • Monitor industry trends and legislative changes affecting compensation practices.
  1. Job Evaluation and Analysis:
  • Evaluate new and existing job descriptions for appropriate classification and leveling.
  • Perform job analysis to ensure positions are accurately described and aligned with market benchmarks.
  1. Collaboration and Advisory:
  • Partner with HR Business Partners and leadership to provide guidance on compensation matters, including salary offers, promotions, and adjustments.
  • Provide training and support to managers on compensation philosophy and processes.
  • Collaborate with the HRIS team to ensure accurate compensation data management.
  1. Incentive and Bonus Programs:
  • Develop and manage performance-based incentive programs.
  • Provide analytics and reporting on the effectiveness of incentive programs.
  1. Compliance and Reporting:
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local compensation regulations (e.g., FLSA, pay equity laws).
  • Prepare and submit reports for internal and external stakeholders, including pay equity analyses and regulatory filings.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in compensation analysis, design, and administration, with progressive responsibilities.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and compensation software tools.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with data visualization tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations affecting compensation.
