State and Local Tax Senior Manager We are seeking experienced CPAs to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) team at a well-established and highly profitable regional CPA firm. The role involves direct interaction with clients and requires a proactive approach in managing and overseeing various SALT related services. Ideal candidates will be involved in groundbreaking tax research, supporting complex auditing matters, and will have ample opportunities for career advancement. Salary: Dependent on Experience per year Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Manage and delegate specialty Tax research projects to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Actively participate in client meetings and tax planning efforts to optimize client service for larger accounts. Serve as a SALT resource for tax preparers/specialists and audit staff, providing guidance on specific tax issues. Take on direct client service responsibilities, managing interactions where delegated from partners or managers. Stay abreast of tax law developments and communicate relevant information to firm personnel. Delegate and oversee tax audits and tax appeal processes, representing clients before taxing authorities during hearings and appeals. Prepare detailed written technical memoranda and correspondence for both taxing authorities and clients. Contribute to the firm’s practice development by engaging with referral sources and participating in community and industry activities. Responsible for the development and training of senior, semi-senior, and staff accountants. Minimum Position Qualifications: At least five years of experience in public accounting with proven progression in tax complexity and scope. Two years of experience representing clients before taxing authorities. One year experience supervising and directing work of tax preparers. Bachelor’s degree in accounting; master’s degree in taxation preferred. Continuing education: minimum of forty hours per year to maintain and develop technical and business skills. CPA or J.D. certification, or progress towards certification. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge of current tax laws. Demonstrated client interaction skills, both verbal and written. Strong leadership and personnel management skills. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software programs. Skills: Exceptional research and analytical skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
